BE/BTech Abroad Application Process

First of all, start researching colleges offering BE/BTech abroad. If you have decided on the country before selecting the college, then you can search for colleges according to your profile. If you have not decided on the country before selecting the right college, you can compare a few colleges on factors like tuition fees, living costs, and eligibility criteria. If considering to apply systematically, in a right manner, your application must start at least 12-18 months before the date of joining college. So, your next steps must be derived from the following plan -

  1. The first step is to check all the requirements of your course, on your chosen university's dedicated webpage for your course. After that, you must prepare all the standardised subject tests and English language test - whichever is required for your course.
  2. The next step is to prepare all the academic documents to upload while submitting your college application. So, prepare your academic transcripts, a Statement of Purpose (SOP) and Letters of Recommendation (LORs).
  3. The above two steps will easily consume at least 7-8 (more or less) of your time. And you would just have become ready to apply by the time universities open their application window - if you go by this timeline. So, now is the time you submit your applications along with application fees, which typically range from $50 to $100 per university.
  4. Apply for merit-based scholarships offered by the universities or outside organisations.
  5. Compile your financial documents (bank statements, education loan approvals) to prove you can cover tuition and living expenses (which generally range from ₹20 to ₹40 Lakhs per year depending on the country)
  6. Once you receive your university admit and accept the offer, you will receive Confirmation of Enrolment
  7. Apply for the student visa as soon as you receive a confirmed spot on your course

BE Abroad VS BTech in India

Engineering is a popular and lucrative field; therefore, it is one of the most sought-after degrees among students. However, there is a huge difference between pursuing Engineering in India and studying it at a popular study destination abroad.

  • Quality of education in India and abroad: Although there are many quality educational institutes in India, like IITs, that offer high-quality technical education. However, the number of institutes offering good quality education cannot accommodate the huge number of students who wish to pursue BE/BTech. And many educational institutes don't offer the quality and research facilities that a foreign education institute offers.
  • Infrastructure: Abroad universities offering technical courses are equipped with state-of-the-art research facilities. Whereas, apart from the top colleges in India, there are very few universities that are equipped with world-class labs, equipment, and research facilities.
  • Cost: This is one of the major factors that students consider before starting their engineering degree. The cost of studying in a foreign country is comparatively higher than studying in India. However, there are scholarships for studying abroad, but not every student gets them.
  • Post-study opportunities: This is a major attraction for students going to study engineering abroad. Engineering graduates get a lot of job opportunities with higher remuneration abroad.

Which country is best for BTech Abroad?

There's no single "best" country for a B.Tech abroad; it depends on your priorities, but top contenders are the USA (innovation, research), Germany (low/no fees, practical focus), Canada (quality education, work permits) and the UK (strong industry ties, shorter courses). Other strong options include Australia for quality of life, Ireland for IT/Biomedical and Singapore for tech hubs, with varying costs and specialisations available.

Exams for BE/BTech Abroad

To get admission to an engineering college abroad, students need to take English Language proficiency exams like IELTS, TOEFL, and PTE. Also, for getting into an undergraduate course, students also need to take standardised exams like SAT and ACT. The exams can vary from university to university, so students should know which exam to give for which course to study abroad.

BE/BTech Specialisation

Engineering is applied in all fields and the majority of professional practice where technical skills are required. The most lucrative engineering streams are:

  • Chemical
  • Aeronautics
  • Automobile
  • Computer Science
  • Electronic & Communication
  • Electrical
  • Mechanical
  • Civil
  • Biotechnology
