15-Day IELTS Study Plan

So far, we have covered the examination pattern and the resources required for your 15 days IELTS examination preparation. We have mentioned a strategy below:

Day

Strategy

Day 1

  • Familiarize yourself with the test pattern and the previously asked questions on the test.
  • Without a proper understanding of the test format and the kind of questions asked on it, you will be like a traveller who is travelling without a destination.

Day 2-4 (Reading)

  • During the 15 days practice for IELTS examination, you should devote 3 days to the reading section.
  • The section is not as complex as it seems, but you need the skill of reading and understanding long paragraphs, and then answering the questions that follow. All this has to be done in a limited time.
  • Pro tip: Read the questions before reading the whole passage. This will help you answer the questions directly and save you time.
  • Take the help of the resources mentioned above, and practice sample questions and PDFs

Day 5-7 (Writing)

  • This section requires practice. You cannot shy away from hard work here.
  • Make sure that you improve your vocabulary and grammar.
  • Make sure that you develop a practice of clearly arranging your ideas so that when you write, your paragraphs have coherence and flow.
  • Take the help of the above-mentioned resources and sample papers for your practice.

Day 8-13 (Listening Speaking)

  • For both the Listening and Speaking sections, the Cambly app will be of great help.
  • Along with these, you can take the help of the CDs that come along with the study material.
  • While preparing for the Listening section, make sure that you remain focused on the words and that you do not lose your concentration.
  • In the speaking section, make sure that you do not flaunt a made-up accent. Try to be as clear and as coherent as possible.
  • You can perform mirror exercises, where you speak in front of the mirror on topics that have appeared on the IELTS.
  • Pro tip: During your free time of the day, you can listen to motivational podcasts from native speakers. Not only will it help you improve your listening skills, but also give you a boost of motivation.

Day 14-15

  • Since you have only 15 days to practice for the IELTS, you should try to attempt as many mock tests as possible in the last 2 days.
  • Do not pick up a new book or new study material at this stage.
  • Try to revise your study material/notes.

IELTS Preparation Tips for Reading & Listening (15 Days)

You have very less time, so you cannot read full stories. You must work smart. These parts are called "passive" because the answer is already there in the paper or recording. You just need to catch it.

Reading Shortcuts

Do not read the full passage line by line. You will fail to finish time. Check details on IELTS Reading

  • Skim and Scan: Just read the headings and first sentence of paragraph. Look for keywords like names, years, or big words.

  • Find Synonym: The question will not use same word as passage. It uses synonyms. If text says "buy", question says "purchase". Look for meaning, not matching word.

  • Don't Waste Time: If one question is too hard, leave it. Guess the answer later because there is no negative marking.

Listening Shortcuts

You hear the audio only one time. If you miss, it is gone.

  • Read Before You Listen: When they give time to "read questions", don't rest. Read the questions fast. Underline the keywords.

  • Predict the Answer: Guess what is coming. Is it a name, a number, or a place? This helps brain to catch word.

  • Beware of Traps: The speaker will change mind. They say "It is $15... oh sorry, it is $50". The answer is $50. Be careful.

If you practice these tricks every day with Cambridge books, your score will go up.
