IELTS Preparation Tips for Reading & Listening (15 Days)
You have very less time, so you cannot read full stories. You must work smart. These parts are called "passive" because the answer is already there in the paper or recording. You just need to catch it.
Reading Shortcuts
Do not read the full passage line by line. You will fail to finish time. Check details on IELTS Reading.
-
Skim and Scan: Just read the headings and first sentence of paragraph. Look for keywords like names, years, or big words.
-
Find Synonym: The question will not use same word as passage. It uses synonyms. If text says "buy", question says "purchase". Look for meaning, not matching word.
-
Don't Waste Time: If one question is too hard, leave it. Guess the answer later because there is no negative marking.
Listening Shortcuts
You hear the audio only one time. If you miss, it is gone.
-
Read Before You Listen: When they give time to "read questions", don't rest. Read the questions fast. Underline the keywords.
-
Predict the Answer: Guess what is coming. Is it a name, a number, or a place? This helps brain to catch word.
-
Beware of Traps: The speaker will change mind. They say "It is $15... oh sorry, it is $50". The answer is $50. Be careful.
If you practice these tricks every day with Cambridge books, your score will go up.
