Options to Share GRE Scores

You can share your score for free or by paying an additional amount. As mentioned earlier, your GRE fee covers the cost of four free reports. Students can use the "ScoreSelect" feature of ETS to send the score without paying anything.

After test day or sending scores to more than 4 universities, Additional Score Reports (ASRs) are required at USD 40 per recipient. Remember, with the ScoreSelect (FREE) option, you can send any GRE score (Most recent or any specific test) to the selected university.

Process to Send GRE Scores to Colleges

So how does this process of sending scores actually work? Once you select a college to share your scores with, they are simply permitted to view your record. The colleges have access to the online scores database, and your scores become available to view once they decide to check them. So nothing is mailed to the schools immediately.

The colleges don’t check the scores until you submit the complete college application. They will verify your score if they consider admitting you.

So what is the best thing to do? Pick four colleges for no charge at the testing centre. These should be the shortlisted colleges you wish to get into. If you retake the GRE after some time, pick four different colleges this time. If you score higher, the new score will be considered valid. So once you send your college applications, you can use the GRE scores to a maximum of eight colleges.
