- A Juris Doctor (JD), Bachelor of Laws (LLB), or equivalent law degree from any authorized degree-granting institution (Canadian or international).
- An average of B (a minimum of 5.0/9.0 GPA) in the final two years of that law degree program. In practice, however, most of the successful applicants offered admission have a higher GPA of at least a B+ average (a minimum 6.0/9.0 GPA), high Upper 2nd class standing, or equivalent.

- Universities could also require candidates to have work experience as part of the admissions process.
- Universities could also ask candidates to provide GRE/LSAT scores as part of the application form.
Work Permit after studying LLM in Canada
Getting a PGWP (Post-Graduation Work Permit) while studying in Canada depends largely on the chosen course and its duration. Permission to work under the PGWP is usually issued for the duration of the study programme. The maximum length of the PGWP in Canada is three years. It means that if the duration of your post-graduate course is two years, you get a three-year PGWP visa. The duration of the course should be at least eight months for you to obtain a PGWP permit in Canada.
