The Home Office suspended accepting ETS tests, including TOEFL exams, as evidence of English language ability from new visa applicants last year after BBC uncovered the fraud.

ETS has made the decision not to extend the Secure English-language Testing (SELT) license with the Home Office. As a result, TOEIC and TOEFL iBT testing are still not offered for UK visa-granting purposes, even after a year.

This change and suspension only affect visa applications. Since higher education institutions choose their own method of assessing English language ability, they may continue to accept TOEFL as evidence of competence in English. The requirement of TOEFL as a language proficiency test is dependent on the college. International students are advised to check with colleges directly. So your TOEFL scores may be accepted by the college, but ultimately your student visa application may get rejected.

Q:   Is university of West of Scotland good for international students?
A:

The University of the West of Scotland has five modern and diverse campuses in United Kingdom. The University has welcomed more than 3,000 international students which are representing 1/3 of the globe. They also have 130 European partners who are actively in global study and exchange options through the Commonwealth universities programmes. The University also offers study abroad opportunities for UWS who are eligible for the same and also have more than 20 transnational education partners worldwide which helps them deliver UWS Bachelors and Masters Degrees around the world.

Q:   How far in advance should I register for the TOEFL?
A:

TOEFL test takers are advised to plan strategically. To guarantee your scores reach universities on time, candidates are advised to register at least 3 months before their first admission deadline. Remember, while online registration allows you to register up to 2 days before the test, late fees will apply. So, registering early is sensible to avoid unnecessary costs and ensure a smooth application process.
