Understanding Canada's Express Entry System

Every year, skilled immigrants who want to settle permanently in Canada apply through Express Entry. Express Entry has three immigration programs, namely, Canadian Experience Class for skilled workers with Canadian work experience, Federal Skilled Worker Program for skilled workers with foreign work experience, Federal Skilled Trades Program for skilled workers who are qualified in a skilled trade.

If you are eligible to apply through the Express Entry program, you will be ranked (in the Express Entry Pool) based on your points obtained according to the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). On the CRS, you receive a score on a 1200-point scale based on various criteria. An overview of the criteria has been mentioned below:

Before understanding the IELTS score required for Canada, it is important to understand how your IELTS scores are considered as part of your CRS points. The score that you obtain in the IELTS exam is converted to the CLB equivalent. A particular CLB equivalent corresponds to certain CRS points which are considered for your ranking in the Express Entry pool.
