It falls after the September intake and is often taken by students who need more time to prepare their application, or by students who missed out on the September intake due to unavailable or incomplete documents can also go for this second major intake in the UK, i.e., the January intake.  

The January Intake in UK 2027 is your second chance to study at top UK universities. It is a smaller intake and has fewer courses and colleges/universities available compared to the September intake. January intake in UK gives a second chance to students who have missed the September intake or needed some extra time to complete their applications during the time of September intake. During the January intake, the competition is less, class sizes are small, and fewer courses and scholarships are available at universities and colleges. Students find less student crowd on campus when they enter via this intake. However, if we look at the overall time available to prepare for this intake, then it is much shorter than the September intake in UK; i.e. for the Sep intake, students get a full year to prepare the application. On the other hand, for the Jan intake, they get only 6-7 months, starting in June-July. However, if students use the Jan intake as an extension of the Sep intake, then they get much longer time for preparation, i.e. 1 year + 6 months. This means students do not need to wait another whole year if they miss the September intake.

UK January Intake 2027 Timeline

UK January intake deadline usually falls in the months of August to September of the previous year. The points given below will help you understand the timeline for the January intake at universities in UK. Based on the deadline of your course, you start your preparation. It is advised that students start preparing at least 10-12 months before the commencement of their course. For this section, let us consider January 2027 as the commencement month for the course.

1) March 2026 - April 2026

• Research the universities and courses offering a January intake UK in 2027. Go through the course curriculum, placements, fees, rankings, cost of living in the UK, etc.

• Note the financial requirements and start searching for scholarships and study abroad loans.

2) May 2026 - June 2026

• Take standardised tests such as SAT or ACT for UG courses and GMAT or GRE for PG courses.

4) September 2026 - October 2026

• Wait for the decision on your application. Keep an eye on emails from universities.

• Once you have accepted an offer, you must start your UK student visa application as soon as possible.

• Your application will be examined by university - so keep an eye on your email for any updates or requests from your university, as this process could take a few weeks.

• If you receive an admissions offer, go through the terms and conditions. If you want to accept the offer, be sure to secure your spot by following the university's guidelines.
