I will recommend you to look at the structure of the G.K. books before you start using it. Within its structure is encoded the teaching methodology by the author. Some of the important tips for cracking this examination is:
Dont waste too much time on medicine as there are just 21 MCQs from there.
The first and second part subjects are probably more important as most people dont study them.
As usual the small and tricky subjects will decide the ranks, so study these carefully.
Please stop mugging up guide books answers. Not only are they wrong but the question bank has changed. This is true, especially for small subjects.

Yes, you can appear for GATE more than twice. ECE us a good branch but their scope in India is less if you want a job after M.Tech or B.Tech. Usually, doing M.Tech in ECE is good than only B.Tech. Moreover after M.Tech many companies doors are automatically open for you. Also some PSU may give admission based on that and the score you achieved.
