A niche law specialisation, Nuclear Law is a highly specialised field which deals with the peaceful use of nuclear science as well as technology.
The purpose and function of nuclear law is to promote and protect nuclear energy. Nuclear Law promotes the development of nuclear science and technology and it also protects mankind against any hazards of using this technology as well.
The International Atomic Energy Agency's Handbook on Nuclear Law defines it as, “The body of special legal norms created to regulate the conduct of legal or natural persons engaged in activities related to fissionable materials, ionizing radiation and exposure to natural sources of radiation”.
As part of a Nuclear Law course, aspirants need to be well-versed with International Law, Contract Law and Environmental Law.
Candidates can pursue Nuclear Law at the postgraduate (PG) level, however, most colleges only offer diploma programmes in the field of nuclear law.
