B.Sc. in Humanities & Social Sciences

Arpta SinghSenior Executive – Content
A BSc is a Bachelor of Science (BSc) which students generally take up after their Class 12. Students who did their Class 12 in the Science stream, will generally take up the subjects they have studied such as Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, English or even Computer Applications. Liberal Arts allow students to mix disciplines and programmes, where students are taught multi-disciplines in a programme and can opt to take up different courses at a time and pursue them, based on their skills, knowledge and interest. That's how Liberal Arts come into play. It is highly unlikely for a Science student to opt for a BCom course or BBA, simply because they have not studied the subjects in their Class 12.
There are various Universities and colleges which teach subjects from Humanities which have a scientific appeal. Students can apply Science in fields such as Philosophy, Economics, Psychology, Geography and much more. Various fields in Humanities and Social Sciences have a scientific appeal and require scientific theories and research work. For example, Psychology is a vast subject which has different sub-branches and sub-topics. Psychology may be a field from Humanities and Social Sciences, however, there are also applied sciences in Psychology and fields such as Clinical Psychology, Neuro Psychology, Biological Psychology and much more.
Event for Geography, students learn about Human Geography, which caters more towards the Humanities side and there is Physical Geography, which leans towards the Science aspects as students learn about the atmosphere, the core, the environment and much more.

In Psychology is a 3-year undergraduate programme in the domain of scientific studies with a specialisation in the study of mind, behavior, and psyche of the human. The minimum eligibility criterion which most of the institutes ask for is a score of at least 55% (relaxable for reserved category candidates) at 10+2 or equivalent level. B.Sc. In Psychology will focus more on the Science and Maths aspects and factors. There are more lab work and Statistics than what is taught in B.A. Psychology. The course involves plenty of concentration and practical work to understand the theory aspect of what is covered. There is field exposure, experimental learning and giving students a clear view of what the industry requires. On doing a B.Sc. To better understand the field through a Science perspective, students generally pursue their further studies to specialize in a field. Also, students from a Science background can benefit from the extensive study in Biological Science and Research Methodology.
