If you are planning on pursuing a programme in Journalism and Mass Communication but do not want to pursue a full-time course, candidates can opt to take up a Diploma programme. There are various universities and colleges that offer Diploma and Postgraduate Diploma courses in the field of Journalism and Mass Communication. Students can opt to do the course as a full-time, part-time or distance course as well, depending on what the varsity has to offer. Also, a diploma trains a candidate in a particular field of specialisation, so students can opt to choose from various courses which are offered in the field of Journalism and Mass Communication.

The curriculum in a diploma is designed in such a way that the student is taught the basic theoretical knowledge about the course they have opted for, get to do practicals which expose them to the requirements which are required for the field. Also, students take up Diploma courses if they are working and want to learn more and widen their knowledge. Curriculums are designed in a way that its duration and course work meets the needs of the students. A diploma course is generally one year and can also be extended to two years. However, students are required to pursue Diploma courses from universities and colleges which are recognised by the UGC or AICTE.

Eligibility Criteria for Diploma in Journalism

There are various universities and colleges which have set criterias and students are required to meet the set criteria in order to get admission to the course applied for. The eligibility criteria is as follows:

  • Diploma: The candidate should have done their Class 12 from a recognised board and should have secured a minimum of 50% aggregate.
  • PG Diploma: The candidate should have done their bachelor’s in any field or discipline from a recognised University and should have secured a minimum of 55% aggregate to be eligible.

Admission Process for Diploma in Journalism

There is a certain admission process which needs to be followed by students and the procedure is as follows:

Chose University/College: The first step is to search for colleges or universities which are offering Diploma courses in Journalism and Mass Communication. Check the fees, the seats offered, eligibility criteria which is set for the course.

Apply for Course: Proceed to apply for admission after getting to know the university offering the programme. Fill up the details as required and pay the application fee. The application forms are available for a limited period of time so the candidate is advised to know the details way in advance.

Mode of Admission: Universities and Colleges will either conduct entrance exams for admission or offer admission through merit. For postgraduate diploma courses, the candidate will have to appear for an entrance exam which can be followed by a Personal Interview (PI) or Group Discussion (GD) round.

Results: Selected and qualified candidates make the merit list. The student has to get the desired rank and percentage, to be eligible for admission.

Counselling: The candidate will have to appear for the counselling session conducted at the university to book their seat, submit their documents and pay the fees to seal admission.
