Dairy technology, a specialized field within Engineering and Food Technology, is dedicated to the science and technology associated with the processing, preservation, and packaging of milk and its derivatives, including cheese, ice cream, butter, and yogurt. Integrating elements of chemistry, microbiology, engineering, and nutrition, the discipline ensures a focus on food safety, quality control, and efficient production methods.

Eligibility criteria for undergraduate (BTech) programs typically require a successful completion of Class 12th with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, with varying minimum marks (typically ranging from 50-75 percent). For postgraduate (MTech) studies, candidates should hold a bachelor's degree in Dairy Technology, Food Technology, Agriculture, or a related field, with admission usually based on entrance exams or merit.

Entry into these programs may involve various entrance exams such as JEE Main, state-level exams like TNEA, OJEE, GUJCET, or specific exams conducted by individual universities for undergraduate studies. For postgraduate programs, GATE, ICAR AIEEA, and university-specific exams are commonly considered. Top colleges for Dairy Technology courses include National Dairy Institute, Anand Agriculture University, LPU and some NITs.
