Required Skillset for Nanotechnology
The study of Nanotechnology looks into the latest trends and developments in various fields of nanotechnology and related skill requirements. It examines the latest development and market trends at the national and international levels. The analysis typically digs into basic skillsets, specifically innovative skills involved in the study of controlling matter on a nuclear, atomic and supramolecular scale.
Skills required in nanotechnology can be differentiated into general and specific. Generic skills mean interdisciplinary cross-sectoral knowledge in natural sciences and engineering as well as basic business management skills. Specific skillsets for nanotechnology involves mastering a certain Nanotechnological procedure.
Enlisted below are the basis of the skill for the competency they fall in.
Knowledge – Professional Competency
Having sound knowledge of different technical branches and natural science fields such as Physics and Chemistry and their special branches for example Photonics, precision optics, laser technology or electroplating.
Knowledge of protection of health and safety standards, instructions, data processing and foreign languages.
Skills & Faculties – Methodological Competency
Skills and faculties demand effective handling with technological procedures. At this point the applied procedures of analysis, manufacture and finishing and the competencies that are required for handling technical systems are taken into consideration;
Personality characteristics – Soft skills and Competencies of Personality
This involves characteristics such as behaviour, creativity and the capability to learn as well as the ability to analyse. It also involves communicative abilities and self-motivation.
Nanotechnology Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility Criteria for UG Level Courses: The candidates must pass a senior secondary examination from a recognized board with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as mandatory subjects. The preferred mode for admission at most of the institutes offering this course is an entrance exam. Candidates who have appeared in the senior secondary examination and are waiting for their results are allowed to apply for this course.
Eligibility Criteria for PG Level Courses: To enrol to MSc. In Nanotechnology or similar PG courses, candidates should have passed a bachelor’s degree course in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Life Sciences subjects. For admission to M.Tech in Nanotechnology, candidates should have completed B.Tech in Material science, Mechanical, Biotechnology, Biomedical, Chemical, Electronics and Computer Science.
Entrance Tests for Nanotechnology
The route to this course is through an entrance exam. The most common entrance exam that is required for this course is JEE test. Other than JEE, some institutes also conduct their tests and take admission based on scores of the tests. Some of these tests are:
- SRMJEEE
- VITMEE
- COMEDK
- Aligarh Muslim University Postgraduate Entrance Exam (AMU)
- Indian Institute of Space Science &Technology
- IIT JAM
Some institutions accept admission through direct entry. Amity Institute of Nano Technology is one such institute. They require the candidate to score a minimum of 60% in classes X and XII with a score of a minimum of 60% in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics/Biology.
MSc Nanotechnology: Admission Process
- Most of the universities offer admission to M.Sc. in Nanotechnology based on GATE score. Those without valid GATE scores can seek admission based on the entrance exam conducted by the concerned college/University.
- Applications forms including prospectus can be collected from the official portal of the concerned University. Filled up application forms must reach the University office before the last date. Online application submission is also possible.
- Shortlisted candidates based on entrance test scores will be informed about the date for the interview. Those who can get through this final round can seek admission to the course.
