What is Sociology?
The study of human social relationships, society social interaction and culture which surrounds and makes an impact on our everyday lifestyles. In simple terms, Sociology can be defined as the general science of society. The traditional focus of sociology includes social stratification social class, social mobility, religion, secularization, law, gender and deviance. Sociology covers all spheres of human activity which range from the institute of medicine, economy, military to the internet, education, social capital and other various aspects which affect human lives.
The 21st century has seen the rise of new analytically, mathematically and computationally rigorous techniques. There are famous philosophers who have played a major role in the field of Sociology such as Auguste Comte, Karl Marx, who set out to develop scientifically justified systems in the wake of the European industrialization and secularization, affected by various key movements in the philosophies of history and science. Herbert Spencer was one of the popular sociologists and is the one who coined the term, ‘Survival of the fittest’.

The candidate needs to have done their Class 12 from a recognised board in any stream and should have secured a minimum of 45% in aggregate marks. |

The candidate should have done their BA Programme in any discipline or BA (Hons) with Sociology as a major or minor from a recognised university and should have secured a minimum of 50%. |
| MPhil in Sociology |
2-Years |
The candidate should have done their MA in Sociology in from a recognised board and should have secured a minimum of 55% to be eligible for the course. |
| PhD in Sociology |
2-Years |
The candidate should have done their MA or MPhil from a recognised university and should have secured a minimum of 60% to be eligible. |
Sociology Admission Process
Chose University/College: The first step is to search for colleges or universities which are offering programmes and courses in Sociology. Check the fees, the seats offered, eligibility criteria which is set for the course.
Apply for Course: Proceed to apply for admission at the University offering the programme. Fill up the details as required and pay the application fee. The application forms are available for a limited period of time so the candidate is advised to know the details way in advance.
Mode of Admission: Universities and Colleges will either conduct entrance exams for admission or offer admission through merit. For postgraduate courses and above, the candidate will have to appear for an entrance exam.
Results: Selected and qualified candidates make the merit list. The student has to get the desired rank and percentage, to be eligible for admission.
Counselling: The candidate will have to appear for the counselling session conducted at the university to book their seat, submit their documents and pay the fees to seal admission.
