A very complex and continuously expanding law specialisation, International Trade Law encompasses rules as well as customs that are utilised to handle trade conducted between different countries.
International Trade Law has now become an independent field of study primarily because most of the governments have become a member/ part of the World Trade Organisation (WTO). Recently, International Trade Law has become a very popular and important law specialisation and this has happened because transaction between private sectors of different countries is an important part of the WTO activities.
International Trade Law can be divided into four levels depending on international trade relationships, which are, unilateral measures, bilateral relationships, plurilateral agreements, and multilateral arrangements.
Difference between International Trade Law and International Economic Law
The primary difference between the two is that International Economic Law is a broader field and it not only includes the laws related to the World Trade Organisation but also the laws that govern the international monetary system and current regulation along with the law of international development. On the other hand, International Trade Law includes legal rules of international legislation as well as laws that regulate international trade relations.
Most colleges/ institutes offer undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) level programmes in the field of International Trade Law. Some popular PG level courses offered in this law specialisation are LLM in International Trade Law, LLM in International Commercial Laws, LLM in International Business Transactions and Trade Law, LLM in International and Comparative Law, LLM in International Trade and Economic Law, LLM in International Law and the likes.

Eligibility Criteria for International Law
The eligibility criteria for an International Trade Law course may vary from college to college. However, common eligibility criteria for international law courses are:
- Candidates are eligible to apply for an integrated course with International Trade Law as a specialisation if they have completed their Higher Secondary School/ Intermediate (10+2) or equivalent education from a recognised board.
