What is NIFT Entrance Exam?
NIFT is a national-level design entrance exam conducted by the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT). The NIFTEE exam includes written exams comprising the NIFT GAT (General Ability Test) and NIFT CAT (Creative Ability Test). The GAT paper is mandatory for all programs, while only B.Des and M.Des candidates need to take the CAT. NIFT Situation Test/ Personal Interview is for B.Des candidates. Shortlisted candidates have to appear in the Situation Test, whereas PG candidates need to appear in a Personal Interview. Admission to the B.F.Tech program will be based on GAT scores.

The final score of NIFT 2026 for the other programs will be prepared by giving weightage to the written exams and Situation Test/ Personal Interview. The scores or merit rank of NIFT will be considered for admission to design courses offered by the NIFT participating institutes. Currently, there are 19 participating institutes. The institutes offer the following courses - B.Des, M.Des, B.F.Tech, M.F.Tech, and M.F.M. Admission to these courses will be based on NIFT merit rank.
National Institute of Fashion Technology also allows candidates the option of direct admission to the 3rd semester of a UG program. Interested candidates may apply for NIFT Lateral Entry Admission 2026.

- In the log-in window that opens, enter your application number and password
- On log-in, the result of NTA NIFT 2026 Final Result will be displayed on the screen

Final Results of NIFT 2026
Candidates who qualify in the written exams will have to appear in a Situation Test/ Personal Interview. The final result will be prepared by giving weightage to CAT, GAT, and Situation Test/ Personal Interview.
NIFT Toppers and Exam Statistics
NTA may also release the list of NIFT 2026 Toppers and NIFT Statistics alongside the results. The NIFT topper list, if and when released, will include details like the name of the toppers, application number, and state of eligibility (domicile). That is not all, as NTA will also most likely release the detailed exam statistics, including the gender-wise and total number of candidates registered, who appeared, and who qualified in NIFT 2026.

Counselling: To be notified
The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) will start counselling for NIFT 2026 after the declaration of the NIFTEE 2026 Final results. NIFT 2026 is expected to have three seat allotment rounds and one Spot Counselling round. Seat allocation and e-counselling for Undergraduate and Postgraduate admissions for 2026 will be announced by NIFT in the last week of June 2026. Candidates who have secured a valid Common Merit Rank (CMR) in the final result will be asked to register in the last week of June 2026 on the official NIFT counselling portal.
NIFT 2026 Counselling Process
The counselling process for NIFT 2026 will be conducted in a centralized manner for admission to the 20 NIFT colleges. Candidates who have qualified in the NIFT 2026 entrance exam will be eligible to participate in the counseling process. NIFT 2026 counselling is expected to have three seat allotment rounds followed by a SPOT round. Vacant seats that are left after the regular rounds of counseling will be offered in the SPOT round.
Shortlisted candidates will have to register for counseling and fill in and lock in their choices. Here, choices mean the combination of an academic program and a college. The choices entered by the candidate must be in order of priority. NIFT Round 1 Registration and Uploading of documents is expected to start from the last week of June 2026. Choice Filling and Seat Locking Round 1 will also start in the last week of June 2026.

NIFT 2026 Seat Allotment
Based on the choices opted by the candidates and their merit ranks in NIFT 2026, the allotments of seats will be done. To confirm their seats, the candidates will have to pay the seat-acceptance fee within the given deadline. If the fee is not paid within the given deadline, then the allotment will be canceled and offered to the candidate next in the order of merit. Once the regular counseling rounds conclude, FRESH registrations will be opened for the SPOT round. During the SPOT round, seats will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
NIFT Score Accepting Colleges
In addition to the participating NIFTs, scores of the NIFT 2026 will also be used by other NIFT Score Accepting Institutes for admission purposes. For instance, the World University of Design (WUD) will fill some of its UG and PG seats based on NIFT 2026 merit ranks.
The role of the NTA is limited to the conduct of the NIFT 2026 exam and declaration of results. The scores of the NIFT 2026 final results will be used to shortlist candidates for the counselling process.

NIFT Entrance Exam Cut-off 2026
The National Institute of Fashion Technology will release the cut-off marks for NIFT 2026 written tests at the time of the declaration of results. The cut-off will be category-specific and indicate the minimum marks (or rank) the candidate needs to secure for admission. The candidate thus needs to log in to the result portal to check their qualifying status. Candidates who qualify for the written exams have to next appear in the NIFT Situation Test/ Personal Interview. It may be noted that the qualifying score or cut-off of NIFT 2026 is different from the admission cut-off.
The admission cut-off of NIFT will be prepared based on the final merit after considering the following points:
- The total number of applicants
- The category-wise seat intake
- The total number of applications
- The category under which admission is sought.

NTA released NIFT Admit Card for Stage 2 on April 22, 2026. NIFTEE Stage 2 Situation test was held on April 26, 2026 for UG programmes.
NIFT 2026 admit card for Stage 1 was released by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on February 04, 2026. Candidates who have completed registration process can download their admit cards from NIFT website by entering their application number and password.
Centre details are mentioned in Hall ticket. NTA released call letter for PG programmes for the NIFT Personal Interview. Students were able to download it using their date of birth and Application Number. Personal Interviews for the shortlisted candidates were conducted in Delhi.
NIFT 2026 City Intimation Slip
City Intimation Slip for Stage 2 Examination of NIFTEE 2026 was out on April 17, 2026 for all the shortlised candidates. Students should keep in mind that this is not Admit Card. The City Intimation Slip only informs candidates about the city where their examination will be conducted to help them plan travel in advance.
NTA released the NIFT city intimation slip 2026 on January 29, 2026 for Stage 1. To download it, use your application number and date of birth/password. It contains name of city allocated, application number and exam date. Once a city has been allocated, there is no provision to change it. City slip is not required on exam day.
NIFT Exam Centre for Stage 2
NIFT Stage 2 was conducted in 20 cities across India for B.Des Studio Test. The studio Test and Interview for B.Des NLEA was held at the designated test centres. For PG programmes, Stage 2 Exam was conducted in Delhi.

Candidates must bring the following documents on the day of the NIFTEE Examination. Candidates who do not bring these will not be allowed to appear in the Examination.

NIFT Situation Test Tips
Some of the tips to prepare for the NIFT Situation Test are given below.
- Observe all the things around you, like leaves, tables, chairs, cars, human faces, etc., and try to take inspiration from them
- Try to think of a topic and what models you can make depicting the mood, look, and feel for that topic/product/item
- Develop an idea of what to expect in the Situation test by going through NIFT Previous year questions
- Read Interviews of Previous Year NIFT Toppers. You will get a lot of ideas from their interviews. They usually share their schedules, strategies, etc.
- Think of a concept, first sketch what you have in mind, and thereafter try to create what you have in mind using different materials.
- Try working with different materials to find out how to cut and combine them with other materials.
NIFT Interview Tips
Some of the tips for NIFT Interview are given below.
- Wear decent clothes for the personal interview. Avoid wearing torn jeans and sleeveless shirts. Try to wear smart casuals or semi-formals.
- Do not lie about anything that is asked in the interview. Be honest with the information you are providing. Lying in an interview can be very dangerous as it can make you fall into a loop.
- In case you don’t know the answer, humbly accept it. You can say,’ Sorry, I’m not updated with this information or Sorry, I don’t know about it.
- Never argue in an interview with the interviewer or the panel. You can put your points politely.
- Maintain proper eye contact with the interviewer or the panel, greet everyone as you enter the room, and say good morning, everyone. Answer the questions asked by looking at everyone. Do not look at the walls or the shoes.
NIFT 2026 written exams were conducted on February 08, 2026. Candidates appearing in the exam must note that the CAT paper carries maximum weightage. So, while preparing for the exam, candidates must thoroughly prepare for all the topics given in the exam syllabus.
NIFT General Ability Test (GAT) Preparation Tips
Some of the tips for NIFT GAT are
- Carefully go through the exam pattern and syllabus. If there is any change in the pattern or syllabus, incorporate that in your preparation.
- Make sure that you are following the best books for NIFT 2026.
- Prepare an actionable study plan and stick to it. Start your NIFT 2026 preparation early. This will ensure you have enough time to complete the syllabus, solve sample papers, practice mock tests, and do enough revision.
- Take notes during your study. If the notes are good enough, you can use them for quick revision instead of reading large blocks of text. This can save a lot of time that can be used elsewhere.
- Solve as many sample papers as you can. Also, solve previous years’ NIFT question papers.
- In the last week, practice mock tests to check your preparation.
- It is also important that you stay positive and healthy.

Creative Ability Test (CAT) Preparation Tips
To prepare for the NIFT CAT 2026
- Work on your observation and creative skills.
- Learn the nuances of geometrical shapes.
- Before you draw anything, learn to conceptualize
- Jittery and unclear lines are a big no-no for getting a good score in CAT. So, improve your line drawing skills.
- Shading is not a very important skill for CAT, but learning the basics is a must.

Will there be negative marking for NIFT GAT and CAT?
The unattempted questions in the NIFT GAT and CAT will be considered as zero marks in the evaluation.
Marking Scheme for NIFTEE 2026 Examinations

- Each question carries 01 (One) marks.
- For each correct answer, the candidate will get 01 (One) mark.
- For each incorrect response, -0.25 mark will be deducted from the total marks.
- Un-answered/unattempted will be given no marks.
- In case a Question is dropped due to some technical error, full marks shall be given to all the candidates irrespective of the fact who have attempted it or not.

The Situation Test/ Personal Interview (PI) are the 2nd stage of the NIFT 2026 entrance exam. Candidates were shortlisted for the Situation Test/ PI based on the NIFT 2026 written exam scores.
Note that if the candidate fails to qualify for the 2nd stage, he or she is not considered for admission to various design courses offered by the NIFTs.
The only exception is B.F.Tech program, where the merit list for admission will be prepared solely on the basis of GAT scores.
In the case of other courses, the merit list will be prepared by giving weightage to the written exams and Situation Test/ PI.
The NIFT exam is among the competitive and is also considered among the toughest. So, it is recommended that the candidate starts their exam preparation early. NIFT exam has various components like written exam and Situation Test /Personal Interview. Candidates seeking admission to the B. Des and M.Des courses need to prepare for both the CAT and GAT. The CAT is a drawing-based exam. Now unless the candidate is already well-versed, the exam will be very difficult. So, start early. The same goes for the GAT.
Yes, the candidate is allowed to challenge the draft version of the NIFT 2026 answer key.
Objections cannot be filed against the final answer key. The answer key contains the official keys to all the questions asked in the exam.
Objections against the NIFT 2026 answer key have to filed online through the candidate portal. To file objections, the candidate had to pay a fee of INR 200 per objection.
NTA/NIFT /Government of India can use the data provided by candidate for internal purpose(s) including training, research and development, analysis and other permissible purpose(s). However, this information will not be shared with any third party or private agency for any other use.
NIFT Lateral Entry Admission (NLEA) provides an opportunity to candidates who have completed their Diploma in relevant or related fields of Design & Technology for direct admission to the third semester of UG programmes of NIFT.
Eligible candidates have to appear in the NIFT 2026 entrance exam to get lateral admission. Admission under lateral entry scheme will be strictly on merit of NIFT 2026 exam, which will include written examination, studio test/ technology aptitude test, and a personal interview.
Candidates selected through lateral entry will join the regular UG students of NIFT in their second year.
The seat intake under this scheme will be displayed on the website prior to seat allocation.
Important or relevant information about the NIFT 2026 exam will be sent by NTA through e-mail on the registered e-mail address and/or through SMS on registered mobile number only. Also, the NTA will not be responsible for any non-communication/ miscommunication with a candidate in the email address or mobile number given by him/her other than his/her own.
The GAT paper for all the B.Des and M.Des courses was conducted from 9 am - 11 am. Meanwhile, the GAT written exam for B.F.Tech, M.F.Tech, and M.F.M. courses were conducted from 9 am - 12 noon.
As per Section 2(t) of the RPwD Act, “Persons with Disability (PwD)” means a person with long-term physical, mental, intellectual, or sensory impairment which, in interaction with barriers, hinders his full and effective participation in society equally with others.
The National Instituite of Fashion Technology will release the NIFT 2026 at the time of seat allotment and counseling.
The cut-offs will be available institute and category-wise for all the program at nift.admissions.nic.in.
The cut-offs will be prepared by considering factors like the seat intake, the merit rank of candidates, admission category, etc. Note that if the seat intake is increase the cut-off would likely go down and vice versa.

Good score for B.F.Tech is 95+ for General, 80 for OBC, 60 for SC/ST. The final result will be declared in May 2026.
There are 19 NIFTs that will accept NIFT 2026 Scores for admission purposes. These institutes are known as participating colleges.
However, in addition to the participating colleges, there are other private colleges that will also consider NIFT 2026 scores for admission to their UG and PG design courses. The candidates are urged to go through the list of result-sharing institutes.
The NIFT answer key objection window will close once the draft key is released. To submit objections, you have to:

Click on the objection submission link
A log-in window will open
Log in using candidate credentials
Once you log in, you can access the objection form
Enter you roll number, date of birth, program, and question booklet series
Select the answer key you want to challengeSelect the Question number
Attach the supporting documents and describe your observation in concise and clear terms
Make the payment of INR 200 per objection (note, the fee is non-refundable)
Once you are done, submit the application.
The sample papers for the NIFT exam are released on the official website of the institute - nift.ac.in. The sample papers are available for the GAT and CAT written exams.

Note that sample papers for NIFT 2026 will be released once the exam notification is out or sometime thereabout.
NTA doesn't allow any objection window against the final key. This means, the keys included in the final key are final and officially the correct answers to questions asked in the GAT exam.
The FINAL answer key of NIFT 2026 will be released tentatively in the last week of June 2026.
The candidate can use the answers given in the final key to calculate the number of correct attempts and consequently the probable score.
Note, the NTA will release the recorded responses and NIFT 2026 QP around the 3rd week of February 2026.
