If you are talking about the GATE exam. Then, you must follow the syllabus of B.Tech only. Then also, you must have some command in English language. Look for study material like made easy publication book for GATE and mock test series on GATE forum also. Go with every subject you can cover most. As per your rank, your chances of getting computer science engineering at the main campus is really low. So you need to try for the other campuses. May be you can get some courses like civil, chemical, etc. at the main campus.

The thing is that NITs and IITs, or for that matter, even IIITs do not have lateral entry. While this may be counted as a certain disadvantage to a section of students, do try to understand that the rigorous preparation which churns out effective candidates cannot be replicated in any way in a lateral system. As a result, no, you can't get into an IIT/ NIT.

Still, I would suggest before taking admission any one of them, at least check out the notes from the both coaching classes and meet some students who already had completed their classes. No, there is no entrance exam for admission in the mentioned course. Admission is based on graduation percentage. Candidates who have studied B.Sc./ B.A.(Hons) in Mathematics/ B.Sc.(Hons) in any subject wit mathematics as elective subject / B.Sc. general with mathematics.
