For NIT Durgapur M.Tech admission, candidates must apply for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. GATE is an online national-level examination conducted for Master of Engineering (ME), Masters in Technology (MTech) and direct PhD admissions to IITs, NITs, IIITs and other institutes/universities across India. The exam is scheduled between February 4 and 12.

Eligible candidates are called for the Written Ability Test (WAT), Group Discussion and Personal Interview (GD & PI). Once the selection rounds are over, the institute releases a merit list of selected candidates. Such candidates are required to confirm their seat by paying the programme fee.

For admission to a BTech course at NSHM Knowledge Campus Durgapur, candidates must have passed Class 12 with minimum 45% aggregate (40% aggregate for reserved categories) in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as subjects. Admission to this course is completely entrance-based. Eligible students are selected based on merit in the WBJEE/JEE Main.
