This is so because almost every student gives this branch as the 1st choice and as a result cut off are really stiff. Yes, a B.Tech student can go for a food technology course as it is available for maths students also. Also, a course named B.Tech in food tech is available in many colleges.

Being an alumni of this institute I can definitely say that the average package is not at all near to the figure that has been mentioned in other answers. During our batch that is of 14-16, the average was around 4 lakh or may be less than that. And for finance if you get placed in a proper finance profile you should be lucky, because more than 90% companies that comes for hiring are for Sales profile.
