When Cultural sensibilities cause professional dilemma !
In a series of conversations I keep on sharing here, got this call from a concerned parent in Maharashtra.
Our family has religious beliefs and are purely vegetarian. My kid wants to be a chef, is there any scope for a person who doesn't want to even cook non vegetarian food?
So, writing for benefit of those with similar concerns:
I agree that maximum hotels offer a range of both vegetarian & non vegetarian dishes as all cuisine have varieties in both. However the best part of this industry is that there are many opportunities that allow you to work as per your comfort zone.
Keeping in mind the kitchen, there are many different kinds of chefs, you may opt for the bakery & confectionery, salads or even garnish sections as these do not involve non veg. Otherwise in case you are willing to cook non veg food,it is not so necessary for vegetarian students to taste what they have made. It will be suffice if they are willing to cook non-vegetarian dishes.

Hi Ajinkya, The placements are really good back in my days. They personally take initiative to develop your personality and prepare you for the industry Ready through 5 months of Intensive Internship it will be paid or unpaid depends where you got placed. There are top international brands also interested to give placement they are Deloitte, Reckitt Benckiser, AON, Ernst & Young, and others but you have to have smart skills to crack interviews. Frankly, the current scenario during covid for placements is too bad for all the colleges, including the top ones. But as per the college report of 2020 the highest package was still around 22 Lacs and the Average Package around 8.5 Lacs for ITM Navi Mumbai. Around 90%-95% of students generally get placed here. So, in ITM there are many chances you get ROI. Also, Understand yourself and make a killer personality with your skills. All the best!
