You can choose any course and any degree. It is said that if you choose a subject which comes under optional subjects in UPSC Mains exams you don't have to spend more time in preparation for the exams.

You can choose any stream as UPSC only asks you to be a graduate, might it be in any stream of your choice, but if your goal is straight and you only want to become an IAS officer, you can prefer humanities and do BA. Along with it, you can start preparing for IAS.

It would be an added factor, if you prefer engineering as engineering students and graduates can directly appear for the SSB interview instead of clearing UPSC CDS exams. Also, 60 students from engineering and 60 students from non-engineering background are selected. Mechanical and Civil will be a great advantage. Hi Vaishali,
You can get into all three fields of defense, i.e., Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Indian Airforce. You will have to give different exams specific to these categories. You have to be a graduate first, preferably in engineering stream to be eligible to apply for the defense exams like UPSC SSC AFCAT etc.

If you are in the last year, you can apply for UES entry in both Navy and army, you can give AFCAT for Air Force and other exams. Most importantly you can fill for technical entries for which you are eligible in your 7th semester and after completing degree also. You will get a call for SSB based on overall marks in the academics.

You should pursue a course you feel comfortable doing/studying. MPPSC exam is held on two terms of paper, General Studies and General Aptitude Test. This exam is known to be the top scoring exam that you might get with the help of preparing through good books. Applying for this exam, you should be known to the core everything about history, political system, and geography. MPPSC Preliminary Exam is not that tough. If you study daily for 4 hours only for a period of 2 months you can easily sail through Prelims. Regards.
