JCU is a public university from North Queensland, Australia, it became an independent university in 1970.

The Townsville campus also has three affiliated colleges: Saints Catholic College, Saints Marks College, and The John Flynn College. The Cairnes campus has 4,000 students, out of the total university student population. The Singapore campus was established in 2003.
