The University of San Francisco as well as San Francisco State University are two well-known institutions in US and good abroad options for students. When it comes to rankings, the University of San Francisco beats San Francisco State University with the rank #115 in Best National Universities in US News & World Report Rankings 2024. The latter has been ranked #178 in the same category. When it comes to QS World University of Rankings, the University of San Francisco again has an upper hand with the rank #1001-1200. All aspiring applicants can apply to the University of San Francisco through Common Application, USF's Direct Application or the Coalition Application on the university's website. Yes, the University of San Francisco allows all international students to work while studying. If the students are enrolled at USF on an F-1 or J-1 visa, they may work up to:

  • 20 hours per week while classes are in session;
  • 35 hours per week during academic breaks, summer session, and winter intersession;
  • 7.5 hours per day.

There are certain conditions listed below for international students to be eligible for student employment at USF. Each fall and spring semester, the students must be enrolled in at least:

  • 12 units, if they are an undergraduate student;
  • 6 units, if they are a graduate student;
  • 8 units, if they are a law student.

The University of San Francisco offers merit-based scholarships to all the first-year international students, based on their USF-calculated GPA in core academic subjects. Merit scholarships are renewable each year for up to four years, as long as the students maintain satisfactory academic progress towards their degree.
