B.E./B.Tech is the most sought-after course at Government Engineering College, Patan because it offers a strong combination of affordability, quality education, and decent placement opportunities, especially in Computer Science and allied branches. Being a government institution, the college provides engineering degrees at a very low cost, which makes it accessible to students from diverse financial backgrounds. The faculty are known to be supportive and qualified, and the curriculum is structured under Gujarat Technological University, ensuring standardized academic delivery. Among all the available streams, Computer Science and Electronics attract the highest number of students due to better placement records, exposure to the IT industry, and increasing demand for software and tech roles. Additionally, students from these branches often get opportunities to appear for off-campus drives by companies like TCS, Infosys, and Wipro, further increasing the course's appeal. The relatively good infrastructure, the presence of core engineering departments, and the college's consistent academic environment make the B.E./B.Tech programme the highlight of GEC Patan.

The B.E./B.Tech course fee at Government Engineering College, Patan is quite affordable, as it is a government institution. The annual tuition fee is around 6,000 for all branches, including Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, ECE, and Computer Science. In practice, students usually pay fees semester-wise through SBI Collect, which comes to about 1,100 to 1,500 per semester for general-category male students. Female students and those under the reserved or Tuition Fee Waiver (TFW) scheme often pay much less—sometimes as low as 350 to 650 per semester—thanks to various government concessions. In addition to tuition, students pay small charges for labs, examination forms, ID cards, and gymkhana facilities, which add up to around 3,000 to 3,500 annually, especially for Computer Science students. If students choose to stay in the hostel, the hostel fee is about 2,000 per year, while mess charges come to around 2,500 per month. Overall, the total annual cost, including tuition, hostel, and mess, usually falls in the range of 35,000 to 50,000, making it a budget-friendly option for engineering aspirants.

To get admission into the B.E./B.Tech programs at Government Engineering College, Patan, candidates must have passed their 10+2 or equivalent examination with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects, along with one additional subject such as Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, or any technical/vocational subject. They should have secured at least 45% aggregate marks (40% for reserved category students) in these subjects. Apart from the academic requirements, students need to appear for the GUJCET (Gujarat Common Entrance Test), which is the primary entrance exam for engineering colleges in Gujarat. Alternatively, a valid JEE Main score is also accepted. The admission process is managed by ACPC (Admission Committee for Professional Courses), where students apply online, submit their documents, and participate in the counselling and seat allotment process based on their merit rank. Candidates from Gujarat or those holding domicile status in the state are generally eligible for the state quota seats. For Diploma holders or B.Sc. graduates, there is also a provision for lateral entry into the second year of the program, provided they meet the minimum percentage criteria.

GEC Patan versus MBIT-the choice depends on your personal preferences and priorities. This is a brief comparison to help:GEC Patan (Government Engineering College, Patan):Format: GovernmentSalary: Lower as Government pays.Crossover: Average placement opportunities; might be a better point for those going for government examinations or postgraduates.Campus: Decent infrastructure but lacks modern facilities which would have easier availability in private colleges.MBIT: (Madhuben and Bhanubhai Patel Institute of Technology)Type: Private (charity trust based)Offers courses in technology and innovation with option of engineering and applied sciences.Fees: Higher as compared to State-run institutions.Campus Placements: Better campus placement opportunities specifically in IT and core engineering.Campus: Advanced with still newer/larger laboratories, extracurricular orientation.Choose GEC Patan if you want your education to be cheap yet under the purview of the government.MBIT if placement support and advanced facilities are your consideration.
