While Modern College is a private institute run by the Progressive Education Society, it works as a government-aided private college for traditional courses like BA. This means the college receives financial grants and salary support from the government of Maharashtra, allowing them to keep the base tuition fees heavily subsidized and budget-friendly for regular divisions. Additionally, because the college is permanently affiliated with Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), it strictly follows the university and state-regulated fee structures rather than charging private rates.

Yes, the fee gap is massive and quite shocking for most families. Government MBBS colleges in Mumbai charge very low fees for the full course, which is almost nothing compared to private colleges. Private medical colleges in Mumbai like DY Patil or MGM can charge over Rs 1 crore for the complete MBBS course. This huge difference makes government seats in Mumbai some of the most valuable and most fought-over seats in the entire country.
