Students must score at least 40% out of 25/15 marks (i.e.10/6 marks) in Theory papers. Even for practical exams held by Alagappa University for select subjects, the student has to score 40% out of 40/10 marks (i.e. 16/4 marks).

Alagappa University is autonomous. It has the Category-1 autonomous status from India’s statutory body, MHRD (Ministry of Human Resource Development). The university received it in 2018. A Category-1 autonomous status means that a university can create its own courses or curricula across all levels, starting from undergraduate to PhD programmes. Currently, its Centre for Online and Distance Education (CDOE) offers online degree programmes across various disciplines, including English, Commerce, and business studies.

Alagappa University has an A+ grade from NAAC and has completed the third cycle since 2005. The online degree programmes for both undergraduates and postgraduates are recognised by UGC (University Grants Commission). For the online or distance mode of learning, Alagappa University has a dedicated centre, the Centre for Distance and Open Education (CDOE).
