What is NTA JEE Main Percentile Score?

The percentile score is based on the relative performance of all the aspirants appearing in the exam. The score will be obtained after transforming the scores into a scale ranging from 100 to 0 for each session of examinees.

As per the official website, "The Percentile Score indicates the percentage of candidates that have scored EQUAL TO OR BELOW (same or lower raw scores) that particular Percentile in that examination. Therefore the topper (highest score) of each session gets the same Percentile of 100 which is desirable. The marks obtained in between the highest and lowest scores are also converted to appropriate Percentiles.

Difference between Percentage and Percentile

Percentile and percentage of marks are two different entities. Thus, aspirants should not confuse both of the above terms. Here’s the difference:

Percentage

Percentile

A percentage is a number out of 100

The percentile score of a candidate will reflect how many candidates have scored below that candidate in an exam. A Percentile score is a value below which a certain per cent of observations falls.

The preparation of the rank list or All India Rank of the candidate is done by considering the best score of candidates out of all the sessions he/she has appeared. The step-by-step procedure of calculating rank is as follows

Step 1: Preparation of results for each Session

The NTA scores for JEE Main 2023 Paper-1, 2A and 2B for all the sessions will be used to compile the exam result and prepare the overall JEE Main 2023 rank list. The best of the four JEE Main scores will be considered for processing candidates results. JEE Main 2023 results for each session will be prepared in the form of

Step 4 - Counselling Session
For JEE Main qualified candidates, a common counselling process is conducted by Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA). During the online counselling process, the candidates will be able to register and select their choice of colleges and courses from the list of NITs. The selection has to be done carefully since it will affect their allotment. How much score is required for NIT admissions? NITs fall under the category of top engineering institutes of the nation. Therefore, many aspirants wish and aim to study in NITs and the competition level naturally becomes high. Candidates are expected to score well in the entrance examination I. e. , JEE Main for NIT admissions, especially if they wish to get admission into top B.Tech courses or leading NITs. The scores required for higher chances of admissions vary as per the NITs and courses that the candidates are aiming for. However, if the candidate wishes for admission into top B.Tech courses such as CSE, EEE, ME in top NITs, then they will be required to score above 250 marks (General category) for a higher chance of admission. Step 5 - Confirmation of Admission
Finally, if the candidates are able to get allotted into the NITs, then they will have to confirm their seats. After freezing their seat, the candidates will have to pay the seat acceptance fee. Document verification has to be done at the reporting centres for confirmation of admission.

Here are some tips to help you get started:
Understand the exam format: The JEE consists of two papers JEE Main and JEE Advanced. JEE Main is a computer-based test while JEE Advanced is a paper-pencil test. Both papers have multiple-choice questions, and JEE Advanced also has some numerical answer-type questions. Create a study plan: Make a study plan that includes all the topics covered in the exam syllabus. Divide your time between learning new concepts and practicing problems. Allocate more time to the topics that you find challenging. Focus on basics: Make sure you have a strong foundation in the basics of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. If you find any topic difficult, try to understand the underlying concepts thoroughly. Practice regularly: Practice is key to succeeding in JEE. Solve as many problems as you can from different sources. Also, attempt previous year's papers to get an idea of the exam pattern and difficulty level. Take mock tests: Take mock tests regularly to analyze your strengths and weaknesses. This will help you to identify the topics you need to work on and manage your time during the actual exam. Time management: Learn to manage your time effectively during the exam. Allocate time wisely to each section and avoid spending too much time on any particular question. Stay motivated: Stay motivated and positive throughout your preparation. Surround yourself with like-minded people who are also preparing for JEE. Seek help from your teachers or mentors whenever required. Remember, preparing for JEE requires consistent effort and dedication. Focus on understanding the concepts and practicing regularly to achieve your goal.

Typically, admission to the mechanical branch is more competitive and requires a higher rank than other branches. However, admission criteria may vary from institution to institution and also depend on the category you belong to. OBC category candidates may have some reservation in certain institutions, but the eligibility criteria and cutoff marks may still be high.
Therefore, I suggest that you check the eligibility criteria and admission requirements of the specific institution you are interested in and see if you meet the criteria. If you meet the eligibility criteria, you may have a chance of getting admission based on the availability of seats and the competition level.
