55% in MAT is a low score. You won't be getting top B-Schools of India. If you don't have prior gap in studies than you can definitely go for a one year gap. A good preparation for 1 year will help you to score good kn entrance exams. A good performance in What/PI and entrance exam will help you to get into top tier MBA institutes.

It depends on your performance, organisation you get recruited, college you have chosen for MBA. Generally you can get upto average package of 7-8 LPA, if you get a tier-2 college. Before joining any MBA college, do a quick reveiw of colleges - look for average placement scenario, fees, infrastructure, students reveiw, student- faculty ratio, and location. Better performance in MBA entrance exam will get you a tier-1/2 college. Better the brand name college, high chances of getting higher packages.
