Hello Tani,
Getting MBA from IIM's is totally different than PG in quantitative economics. I would strongly advise you to go full heartedlly for preparing for CAT. If I may add why not prepare for civil services examination? One year in life, even if you don't qualify, is nothing compared to the satisfaction you will always have of attempting something that you wanted. Go ahead for CAT.

Other than CAT, you can write XAT/CMAT/MAT/SNAP/TISS/NMAT/IIFT to get into top B-Schools of India. if you are looking for MBA in HR TISS is one of the best institute. Symbiosis colleges select through SNAP. IIFT conducts its own exam for 2 locations Kolkata and Delhi.

Look, it's totally up to you if you think you can prepare again and score good marks then its fine. If you think while doing a job you may not be able to do it then go for the admission as it will add value to knowledge and experience.

Yes Partha, you can give exam in your final year of UG. For applying to IIMs, you'll have to use your score till 3rd year.

You can get colleges like LBS-Delhi, IMI-Delhi, IIT-Roorkee/Madras, NITs, FORE-Delhi, IFMR, SIBM-Bangalore (through SNAP), NMIMS-Bangalore (through NMAT), IMS-Mumbai, SIESCOM-Mumbai, K J Somaiaya-Mumbai.

Your past acads do not matter at all.
You need to score in excess of 99.6%ile to stand a chance of converting the admission interview.
No preference for Chartered Accountant.
Any reason there should be any preference?
