Getting MBA from IIM's is totally different than PG in quantitative economics. I would strongly advise you to go full heartedlly for preparing for CAT. If I may add why not prepare for civil services examination? One year in life, even if you don't qualify, is nothing compared to the satisfaction you will always have of attempting something that you wanted. Go ahead for CAT.

Your past acads do not matter at all.
You need to score in excess of 99.6%ile to stand a chance of converting the admission interview.
No preference for Chartered Accountant.
Any reason there should be any preference?
