In 2023, the Central University of Karnataka (CUK) was ranked 151–200 in the University (Overall) category by the NIRF. In 2022, EduRank Best Universities ranked CUK 371 out of 878 universities and colleges in India. In the same year, EduRank Best Universities ranked CUK second out of three universities and colleges in the Gulbarga district.

CUK is a government institute established in 2009.The Central University of Karnataka (CUK) organizes a placement drive each year for graduating students.
In 2022, 80% of MBA students were placed, and the median package for PG courses increased by 11% compared to 2021.
The median package for BTech courses increased by 43% in 2022 compared to 2021.
The average median salary for campus placements is around Rs 600,000.
However, one review says that the placement cell is functioning, but placements are few. Some other reviews mention the hot weather and lack of student interest in the subject.

According to some sources, the Central University of Punjab (CUP) is less expensive than other universities in India. The average annual fee for courses at the Central University of Karnataka (CUK) is approximately INR 59,587. General category students pay Rs. 50,000 per semester at CUK. However, SC/ST students are exempt from tuition fees if their family's annual income is less than Rs. 6 lakhs.

According to some, the Central University of Punjab is considered better for biochemistry than the Central University of Karnataka. The Central University of Punjab is also generally considered a reputable and well-regarded institution. The Central University of Punjab is a public university established in 2009. Some say it's one of the top institutions in the area for academics and a premier research institution with highly trained faculty. University is accredited 'A+' grade in 2023 in second accreditation cycle by NAAC and has secured 95th, 87th and 84th, 81st rank in the year 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 respectively
