Hi Manish,
The decision of selection of the IAS Mains Optional is an age old dilemma for Civil Services aspirants. Selecting an overlapping optional with General Studies is a good strategy, as the time required to study an optional subject not mentioned as per GS syllabus can be saved. Hi,
You have to answer an exam much like the IAS entrance. There are judicial services preparation books you can use while studying law from a college. Most children begin early, being born to lawyer(s) and are prepared for CLAT before applying to some of the best institutions in the country.
If you are lucky and graduate from one of the top 20 in the country, you will be a district magistrate in a week's time. Else, you will have to go through the legal routine : practise for a few years, get a certificate that you did so and apply for the judicial services exam. Good luck and all the best.

Graduates from any university can crack civil services examination to become an IAS. There is no weight-age on the type of college from where a candidate has studied in Civil Services examination marking.
