The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Government of India, founded the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), Gangtok, as one of its units. NIELIT Gangtok currently offers close to 20 UG and PG, short-term and non-formal courses. Mahatma Gandhi Univerity Common Admission Test (MGU CAT) application fee is announced category-wise. The application fee for general and open all-India quota candidates is INR 1,200 and INR 600 for the SC/ST candidates. Moreover, the fee for international candidates is UD 100. The fee payment shall be accepted in online mode via credit card, debit card, or net banking.

Calicut University offers distance education to students through its School of Distance Education. Formerly known as the Institute of Correspondence Courses and Continuing Education, the School of Distance Education, Calicut University was established in 1981-82. The Calicut University SDE offers 25 courses to students.
