This I will demonstrate you by way of a little mathematics. Your percentile means that almost 1% of the total students appearing or above you in order of merit. If we are shown of figure of 10 Lacs students who appeared for this examination then one percent comes to about 10000. The total number of seats available for this branch is not this much. In addition almost every student gives this branch as the first choice hence the closing ranks or really high.
