Candidates require a pass at the 10+2 level from any recognised board, i.e. CBSE / ISC / State Board or the equivalent.

Yes, KCET is the entrance exam for the Karnataka /local students to get into BE.
For outside of Karnataka students, you can write the COMEDK. Also, some universities conduct their own entrance tests which can be taken up to be considered for enrollment. Even if you want to go through management quota, it would be recommended to take up an entrance exam. Of course, 10+2 is the other eligibility factor with science subjects.

I can talk about engineering colleges, since I come from an Engineering background. When you want to choose a college - always consider what course you want to pursue and then check which college has a better edge in that course, research how the faculty, placements, overall atmosphere and support for scholarships and student loans are in the College. This could be through dedicated study of each college online on the website, via personal talks with admissions department, via communication with alumni. I believe when you say IT, you are referring to Engineering and IT. For a career in IT, one can choose to do a B.Sc with Computer Science, BCA and then BCA thereon, BE/B.Tech.
