Hello,
Unfortunately, the answer to this question is "yes".
CAT preparation won't be sufficient enough for XAT and the same holds true if you are preparing for XAT.
This is because the intention to check on the areas are very different in both the exams.
XAT questions are on difficult side whereas CAT questions are easy to moderate level. Also, XAT has General Knowledge section and Decision making sections that are not covered in CAT syllabus.
Thus perpetration for one exam doesn't assure you are ready for other. But yes, the preparation of CAT will ensure a smooth road for XAT preparation and it would be easier.

TANCET 2018 (Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test) is the state level entrance examination. Through this exam, candidates can get admission into the government and non-government colleges of Tamil Nadu state.
