NTA has now conducted JEE Main exam twice in an year. A candidate can give JEE Main exam six times over a period of three consecutive years. In a year, a candidate can appear for JEE Main twice in the months of January and April. Students are advised to go through the full JEE Main eligibility criteria list in order to understand the requirements. So from above you can give JEE Main exam 6 time in consecutive years. However if you still not get selected for NITs, than state government. Colleges and private colleges are the other options. Private engineering entrance exams like VITEEE SRMJEEE LPU NEST MET are the other available options

As per the eligibility criteria of NITs, IITs, and GFTIs : The candidate must have obtained 75% aggregate marks in 10+2 or should be in to 20 percentile of 12th examination conducted by respective state board. Hence you are not eligible for admission in NITs.

Your expected JEE MAin rank is about 212161. The last year highest closing rank at NIT Surathkal was 83729 in Mining Engineering for General neutral gender under HS quota. Hence your chances for admission are very less.

1. NIT Trichy (B.Tech ECE, ICE, Civil and Mechanical)
2. NIT Warangal (B.Tech EEE, ECE, Mechanical and Civil)
3. NIT Surathkal (B.Tech EEE, ECE, Civil and Mechanical)
4. VNIT Nagpur (B.Tech EEE, ECE, Civil and Mechanical)
5. MNNIT Allahabad (B.Tech CSE, IT, ECE, Electrical, Civil and Mechanical).

Your friend's JEE Main percentile is not enough to get any NITs. NITs needs the JEE Main percentile above 92. Hence, ask him to improve his JEE Main percentile in the April-2020 exam.
