Hi Prasanna,
It will be difficult to get an admission in very first round with this score. Nevertheless, don't lose hope. Apply and wait until the results are announced for the last round. You might get NITs in the last round.

On the basis of last year closing ranks, you can easily get admission in NIT Trichy in your category under HS quota in all leading engineering branches. The last year closing ranks for few courses are as under.
1. CSE 3283
2. EEE 8367
3. ECE 6271
4. Mech. 5203.

NITs are much better than the CFTI and self-funded Institutes. NITs provide better faculty resource than the centrally funded institutes. CFTI are better than the Engineering colleges which are located in every corner of our town. Self- funded institutes may not provide all better facilities since they depend on the number of admissions through that year. NITs are much better than any other private and self-funded institutes. So I can conclude that CFTIS are beneficial but not equally beneficial when compared to NITs.
Best of luck.

Both are preferred. Most chances are of the ranks but you need to sit for counselling.
