The scope of Multimedia is well explained in its name itself. It says Multi - which means multiple and media is mode of communication, putting them together gives us the scope. Multimedia comprises of various medias for eg The Print Media , The digital Media, The websites, The E-learning to name few.
The scope of each of the above mentioned collectively forms the scope of multimedia. This is an extensive field and if you are thinking of pursuing your career in this segment then you are heading the right direction. You can talk to the experts and then decide which segment of the multimedia will be suitable for you depending on your interest and current skills.
And as far as the difference between Visual Communication and multimedia is that a person who learns the multimedia (Eg a graphic Designer, Creative Art director, 3D Artist) develops the content for Visual Communication, which is demanded generally by the companies, people, organizations. They need to communicate to their prospective and current customers and they do it well vai visual Communication Eg, TV commercials, Newspapers, Inserts and pamphlets, Websites, Books etc.
So you see the scope is huge, you have to decide which line you need to follow.
