Statement of Vice Chancellor on the status of Bengaluru & Hyderabad Campus to quell all your doubts regarding the campus status
NMIMS is a Deemed University which was accorded this status in 2003. This status was later confirmed in 2007 giving a permanent status to NMIMS as Deemed University. In 2008 when we started the Bangalore campus, we had applied to UGC for its approval as per the UGC Guidelines 2004 for Deemed Universities. In accordance with the Guidelines, UGC constituted its team of experts, who visited our campus in Bangalore in 2009 and subsequently gave us an approval on condition that NMIMS buys the land within five years. UGC Guidelines 2004 only required NMIMS to get UGC approval which could even be post facto approval. NMIMS has already bought the land in Bannerghatta, where the Phase I of the campus is getting completed. It will start its operation from this campus in 2016 Academic Year. Hence, there is no irregularity on Bangalore Campus. In case of Hyderabad Campus, we wrote to UGC and MHRD in 2008our intention to set up Hyderabad campus and as soon as the land was available from the Government of Andhra Pradesh, we wrote to Government of India and UGC and sent all details of the land. We also requested them to constitute a committee to approve our campus in Hyderabad. However, the subsequent development and the view of the then Minister of HRD in 2010 prevailed on UGC which did not constitute any Committee. However, the MHRD and UGC have been regularly kept informed of our campus. Government of India wants us to be regulated by UGC Regulations 2010, whose provisions have been made retrospectively effective. These Regulations has been held unconstitutional by Karnataka High Court and by several other High Courts including Delhi High Court. Given this status, we have responded to MHRD and UGC that provisions of this Regulation cannot be binding. Hence, provisions of UGC Guidelines 2004 should continue for Universities created prior to 2010. In any case, please note NMIMS is offering PGDM program only which is well within its rights. And the PGDM Program is from NMIMS, Mumbai. Though, the program is designed and delivered in Bangalore and Hyderabad, the students are examined by NMIMS University Examination Department. Both campuses are governed by decisions of NMIMS Board of Management and Academic Council. The PGDM Program has an approval from the competent authority of NMIMS.

Hi Nishant. I would like to tell you that NMIMS Bangalore doesn't have distance learning program. Connect with Mumbai campus for the same.
