Also, if you are very insistent on joining MSRIT and you don't get a Mechanical Engineering seat, you can pick another branch, because the coursework for the first year is common to all branches. If you do exceedingly well in the first year, MSRIT offers you an option for a branch change.

Any rank below 1500 should easily get you admission in the first round. For ranks below that, admission should be possible in the second and third round for ranks below 2500-3000. However, admission through KCET or COMED-K with a rank outside this range will be difficult.
Therefore, you are left with 2 options if your rank remains outside this range. You can either take up a management seat (which I advise against), or you could choose a different branch for now and attempt to change your branch upon completion of the first year.

Going by the trend of previous years, you would have to obtain a score of 90+ to get a seat in the Mechanical Engineering department of MSRIT. That would translate to a rank of approximately 1500 or less. The competition is quite fierce, but there are quite a few seats available so it shouldn't be an extremely difficult task.
I would also suggest you to apply to BMSCE and PESIT for Mechanical Engineering, as they have similar cutoffs as MSRIT. RVCE has a much higher cutoff. But Mechanical Engineering at MSRIT is an excellent course that is improving day by day. Therefore, I suggest that you work towards the course and make your studies with respect to competitive examinations very streamlined.

The faculty is excellent, especially in the Mechanical, IS, CS and ECE departments. With respect to Mechanical Engineering, the coursework might be slightly hectic, but there is huge exposure in terms of projects and internship opportunities. MSRIT is also one of the few colleges with a 100% placement record over the last few years. Doing well here will take you places.

They don't really offer scholarships as such. But if you are planning on entering through KCET, the fees are approximately Rs.52,000 INR per year, which is quite reasonable for an engineering degree.
