It's like comparing vastness and diversity of the World ( UID ) with Asia or Europe or any other continents. UID is anyday much ahead because of huge and gorgeous infrastructure and technical advancement, better and experienced faculty resources and excellent internships and placements. UID is not just a department, but the flagship programme and wing of the reputed Karnavati University. I will give you one example. It takes one full day to only visit 18 vast workshops. You forget about the whole campus. You need atleast 2 days time in your hand to visit the entire UID Campus.

UID means Unitedworld Institute of Design which is the flagship wing of the reputed Karnavati University and has no connection with any University from Chandigarh. The faculty of UID are very good as they are basically eminent designers from the industry with national repute. They follow a unique pedagogy with the following steps -
UID is best and unique because the pedagogy of UID includes certain aspects which not only makes a designer speak about his/her creativity, but also makes him or her effective for the industry -
1. Data analysis and measuring the effectiveness of the design which makes the design useful for business. After all design is also a business skill.
2. Building and extending brands.
3. Organizational goal driven design work.
4. Presentation skills which helps a designer to convince his or her clients about the effectiveness of the design. A designer should learn how to present his or her design infront of the critiques so that the clients can hire the designer.
5. UID teaches a designer to understand the problem and then accordingly identify the need of a design so that the designer can come out with effective solution.
6. UID teaches effective business communication skill to a designer which is all about negotiation skills, how to read and write email, how to say NO to a client. Otherwise a designer will have to work for free through his or her entire life span.
7. UID focuses on ethical components of a Design.
8. UID teaches about how to do a critical analysis of a design.
9. UID teaches about how to use existing ideas and convert those into new concepts of designing.
10. UID helps a future designer to build his or her portfolios. Therefore my recommendation goes for UID.

Hi,
Product Design as a design field involves designing or creating products that will be used by consumers. Product Design is related to all the work that is done between an idea coming to mind and finally seeing the product in the hands of the customer. It is not necessary that a product designer always designs new products. Designers can also take inspiration from existing products or can also redesign and update existing models like in mobile phones we see every year.
Aspirants can pursue a course in product design at the Undergraduate as well as Postgraduate level. Since the question doesn't clarify which level, I'll be providing info for both the UG and PG level courses.
At Undergraduate level, initially there is an option for B.Des Product Design programme to start with, which is a course of 4 years duration.
After completing a UG level course, there is an option to pursue higher education. M.Des is a masters programme which is a Postgraduate level course that can be pursued for another 2 years to get excellence in your selected design field.
If you do not wish to pursue PG course, you can opt to pursue a job in Product Design just after completing your B.Des where the most common profile that you can fetch after completing such a course is to become a Product Designer. Later also you can pursue the masters and then you can grow your career in the field.
Some popular options you can consider for this course will be like NID Ahmedabad, Institute of Design Pune, VIT Vellore, IIT, Amity University Noida, IILM University Gurugram, Lovely Professional University Punjab, Symbiosis Institute of Design Pune, FDDI Noida etc.
At this time, one of the best option to consider would be IILM University Gurugram. Here you get the course with an added advantage of Liberal Education in their curriculum with good and advanced pedagogy in teaching. Its focuses on going beyond aesthetics and technical expertise helping students to design, create and inspire.
Today's designers rely on current market trends using innovation in digital technology blended with aesthetic solutions for a product or service and this you can well grasp from an international level institute only which operates with global collaborations. You can visit their website to apply for the programme or to enquire more.
