The basic difference is same as pointed in your question, one is engineering course a degree/diploma focused into details of the architectural engineering aspects.

So, I suggest you to go with more number of books if possible. If you are not able to get any details in books then go with online open sources, ebooks, api's, etc. which will help you to gain knowledge.

Companies like Google, Microsoft, Amazon are dream companies and it is not easy to get there until and unless you are there in IITs, NITs, BITS, VITs and some other big private colleges. Also, you need a great amount of technical knowledge. But, yes if you pursue computer science, if not now but at one point of time you can definitely apply for Google and Microsoft.
