Firstly, it completely depends on your interest. Secondly, every course is best if you give your best and study seriously. But I want to mention about the job type of these two departments. Programmers generally work indoor. But civil engineers work outdoor and tier job is not permanent. That means if there is a project going on somewhere, you can apply for that and not always it happens that the project is in the city where you live in. What I mean by all these things is you may have to shift from city to city. Lastly, search about the course details, which courses are taken in CSE and which are in civil and find out which type of courses... View more

Computer Engineer,

Computer Engineering & Electronics Engineering both are related to each other. But, considering the recession scenario, one can say that Computer Engineering is not an evergreen branch while Electronic Engineering is an evergreen branch. Firstly, it depends on your passion, interest & talent which field to opt for. If you are comfortable with electronic circuits, chips & study of physics, ECE is also a good option. Even with ECE, if you have knowledge of computer Science and it will be an additional advantage in getting hired to a good company. So, the choice is yours, you can opt any one as per your desire.

Congrats for your son's rank. But, as you are not from Delhi, so your son cannot get admission into IIIT Delhi with this rank. If you would have been from Delhi, then he could have easily gotten into CSE branch. For outside Delhi region, students, the seats get exhausted around INR. 12k. So, please try out for some other engineering colleges. All the best.

Sjce introduced extra 60 seats last year and kcet did not publish the final cutoffs (3 Rd special extended round ) results online , as per my knowledge from various friends . Compare the seat matrix of 2018 vs 2017 and you can see how many new seats are added ,thereby deciding the branch to choose and cut offs
EC was available till 3.5 to 4k (GM)
CS was available till 2.5k(GM)
ISE was available till 4.6k (GM)
Eee was available till 5.5k (GM)
Mechanical till 7.2k (GM)
Cut offs were increased due to extra 60 seats added. This created a ripple which affected all branches cut offs
So this year cs might stand somewhere (2.3 to 2.5k)
