While mechanical engineering deals with thermal engineering in which you learn about refrigeration, gear system, machine design, the strength of materials, the theory of machines, fluid mechanics, etc.

Yes, it's a good choice to do Diploma engineering but I would suggest you to choose either mechanical or electrical engineering but if you want to study further then you can take computer science engineering. But if you want to go in govt. sector after Diploma, you can choose electrical and mechanical engineering.

You are very much eligible to pursue Diploma in CSE after 10th board, through JEE for Diploma in engineering. That can also be done after +2. I think, it is better to do +2 in science stream first.
