Most universities have more than one intake like spring or even summer depending on the course for DILR. It is always good to check with the particular universities you are applying to see if they have an alternative intake. It totally depends on your nature. If you are one of a kind who has the ability or can built it in himself to focus without any help then definitely joining classes is not required, but if you do not have this in you then someone is required to boost you up.
If you want to study alone then collect the question papers first and then analyse them and also collect the solutions. Make a proper plan and give proper time to each subject. Also, do not lose the focus during your preparation. Practice the numerical problems from Arun Sharma books because this exam requires more tricks and shortcuts, so by practising more you will get familiar ... View more

Product Manager | IIM Ahmedabad,

There is no specific required time for preparation. It depends from a person to person and their ability to grasp concepts.
For a majority students, I'd recommend to join a one year program at a proper coaching center. It typically starts around August, September and coaches you till the exam next year.
Make sure that you give all their mock tests and analyze the results as well (where you went right, where you went wrong). That always help you find your strengths and weaknesses and thus tackle your main exam accordingly.

Sharply concentrate on such chapters in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, mostly NCERT text books, where most of the questions are based. Study 10-12 hours a day, and set priorities leaving time to revise and practise in the form of many mock tests. Examine your mock tests thoroughly in a bid to locate weak areas and work towards correcting them.
