It is totally based on your interests. CS stands for Computer Science Engineering which deals with the software and programming. Civil is a branch which deals with the formation of dams and infrastructure. So if you have the interests of computer type, then prefer CS and if you have the interests of formation of infrastructure, prefer Civil. In the present scenario, the scope of CS is much huger than Civil but your interests play a vital role in the selection of the branch.

An engineering student IIITian,

You have ample amount of time for preparation. One thing I can suggest you is to start preparation early. CS is the easiest branch in terms of GATE. The questions asked are very direct if you know the concepts. There are three options in which you can prepare. First. You can join any offline coaching institute for the preparation and they will guide you. Second. One of the best one. You can join Ravindrababu Ravula course where his strategy is mind blowing. He is a very good instructor. He charges some fees but it's almost half to that of offline.
3rd is you can do self study but for that you have to start early. Practice by solving p... View more

Hello,
The placements of NIT-Rourkela, mining department is really commendable in terms of placements and curriculum, where as on the other hand, VSSUT-Burla CSE is not extraordinary and promises just one mass recruiter and handful of IT companies. Still I would say if you have interest in CSE, then go for it because interest should be prioritized more than any other factor.
Regards.

There's hardly any seat in CSE, might be only rank1-2 will get admission. Apart from rank, there's one more criteria to join Jadavpur University. You have to pass 10+2 examination with 60% in PCM, all those who joined Diploma after class 10 are ineligible. In fact only those who have Diploma certificate in engineering are allowed, those who appeared JELET after completing B.Sc. Are ineligible.
