The main criteria is to complete your Bachelor degree with very good grades. German universities only accept a brilliant students. Along with it, you must have a strong research profile. Take IELTS too. You can consider taking GATE but not compulsory.

IIT-2016 paper have 2 papers.
Paper-1 and Paper-2 with 54 questions and 184 marks each.
