Yes, without taking science you can't be a 3D animator. You should do your 12th in science and then you can do course in 3D animation which demands science background.

All the long term course starts with drawing subject which is useful in future, so if a candidate already know it well, then why she/he need to learn? Hence, don't worry if your drawing is not good. Moreover, drawing is not a must for every domain and everything in this career, but definitely if you know it well, it has a lot of advantages.

To being an animator, you must complete class 12th and must learn animation principles, tool and technics, knowledge of 2D, sketching, anatomy, acting, posing and facial expression is always a plus point.
To being an animation director, you must have huge experience in animation field as a senior artist, you must have handled several animated movies and series and worked in several such projects.

Both the course are good according to their prospect, but it depends on your interest. Engineering has more job, but if you clear any course with good marks, so you can go anywhere.
