Bharatanatyam course is structured into multiple levels which typically spans over several years. The general progression is as follows:

Basic Level (Beginners / Prarambhik)

• Introduction to basic postures (Araimandi, Samapadam)
• Learning fundamental adavus (basic steps)
• Introduction to simple mudras (hand gestures)

Intermediate Level (Madhyama / Diploma)

• More complex adavus and rhythmic patterns
• Understanding Tala (rhythmic cycles) and Raga (melodic scales)
• Learning simple dance items like Alarippu and Jatiswaram

Advanced Level (Visharad / Degree Level)

• Learning major items like Varnam, Padam, and Tillana
• Deep understanding of Abhinaya (expressions) and storytelling
• Knowledge of Sanskrit and Tamil compositions used in Bharatanatyam

Arangetram (Debut Performance)

•  A full-fledged solo performance after mastering the advanced level
• Marks the transition from a student to a professional performer

Fees for Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) course at MGM College of Fine Art would depend on the specialization. The following are the approximate fees on average.

1. BFA in Animation.

Between Rs 70,000 and Rs 80,000 per year.

2. BFA in Applied Arts

About Rs 60,000 to Rs 70,000 per year.

3. BFA in Painting or Sculpture:

About Rs 50,000 to Rs 60,000 per year.

These courses generally take four years to complete and will cost you a total of between 2 Lakhs and 3.2 Lakhs depending on the chosen stream. Merit scholarships are also offered for deserving students, and various installment payment options are available to enable prompt payment. 

On average, BFA graduates from MGM College of Fine Arts pocket between Rs 3 LPA and Rs 4.5 LPA. The remuneration scale considerably depends on the type of specialisation since Painting, Applied Arts, Animation, and Sculpture dictate not just what special talent a student must demonstrate but also the portfolio and practical skills of the student concerned.


High-performing graduates in Animation or Graphic Design may command a package of up to Rs 6 LPA, with large recruiters such as TCS, Wipro Design Studio, and advertising agencies. On the other hand, traditional arts such as Painting will often resort to freelance-based and commission works that could vary results in terms of income generated.
