Air Traffic Controllers monitor and direct the movement of air traffic in and around airports and en route on specified paths directing the planes to stay safe distances from each other. Following are the options to become Air Traffic Controller in India:
(a) Join Indian Air Force Administration branch. Candidates with graduation degree (minimum three-year degree course) in any discipline from a recognised university with a minimum 60% marks or equivalent are eligible to become Admin Officer in IAF. You are advised to appear for AFCAT Air Force Common Admission Test. Candidates who get selected are trained by IAF as ATC or Fighter Controller.
(b)Join Indian Navy as Air Traffic Controller. Candidate with BE/B.Tech degree in any discipline with Physics & Maths in 12th standard are eligible to join Indian Navy ATC branch as an officer.
(c) Airports Authority of India conducts the selection of Managers ATC and Superintendents ATC through a written test, interview, voice test, medical exam. Maximum age is 28 year. After selection air traffic controllers have to undergo training at Civil Aviation Training Centres. On completion of the training they appear before a rating board and qualify to work with control tower/radar/aircraft control/flight information centers.

Scholarships
~ The following scholarships are available at and administered through IGRUA, in Rae Bareilly (Uttar Pradesh):
1. Indian Airlines scholarships
Two scholarships of Rs 4,00,000, each given on merit-cum-means basis per batch.
2. Air India scholarships
Two scholarships of Rs 4,00,000, each given on merit-cum-means basis per batch.
3. Rajiv Gandhi Foundation
For two women pilots on merit-cum-means to the extent of Rs 3,00,000 each per batch.
4. Scholarships for SC/ST candidates
Rs 2,00,000 on training fee.
Additional Rs 2,00,000 by IGRUA to three SC/ST candidates per batch by selection on merit cum means basis.
Some state governments award scholarships to SC/ST candidates for training at IGRUA. Eligible candidates may approach the respective State SC/ST Welfare Directorate for the same.
5. JRD Tata Memorial scholarships
For four students, of an amount not less than Rs 1,00,000 on merit-cum-means basis. The JRD Tata Trust offers up to Rs 10 lakhs per year to trainees as decided by its Board of Directors.

Eligibility: Class X + 10+2; you must also have a Private Pilot License from the Madras Flying Club.
